Is there a way to make my PS3 backwards compatible?
May be...
I know there are no software, hardware, or firmware updates for this but I'm asking is it possible to open up the PS3 and swap parts with a different PS3 to make it compatible with PS2 games? I recently acquired a broken 20g PS3 so I have everything available.
I would appreciate serious answers only. I know everything about the PS3's on the market and I'm fully aware of the capabilities. Thank you.enough with the jokes : the answer is NOT AT THE MOMENT , but sony has been promising ps3 40gig users the new firmware that could make 40gig and 20gig ps3s backwards compatible , so far they have released a firmware helping 80gb and 60gb users to make all games backwards compatible (those ps3s had some issues with certain games)
so the answer is YES BUT IN THE NEAR FUTURE not at the moment ...
have a good day :D"If a PLAYSTATION 3 is not backward compatible, you will not be able to add this function through any hardware (i.e., changing the hard disk drive) or software (i.e., updates, homebrew) upgrades or modifications. "
that came DIRECTLY from Sony's own website: http://playstation.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...
if you think it's just a matter of opening up the system and putting in the parts you need, you are sadly mistaken. don't even bother to try. just get yourself a PS2 or have Sony repair the 20GB.I don't think it's possible other than to try to repair the old one. Originally it was done physically by a chip in the system board. In later PS3s it was a software emulator that allowed ps2 games to be played. Without knowing more about what versions you have there isn't much we can tell you.Seriuosly? unless you have the knowledge about computers and electronics and you have proper tools, you can try but there is no guarantee. I'm sure Sony people could do it, but you, I doubt it.Just repair the 20GB. I wouldnt mess with part swapping unless you really knew what you were doing, but since you asked on yahoo answers id assume ya dont. You dont want to end up with 2 broken ps3s do you?to make it compatible with ps2 the only thing you can do is just change
the graphics card because doing what you want will require some sirius
hacking/moding.
good luckya u could turn it around so its facing the wall. itll still be compatible with ps3 games so itll be a backwards compatible ps3You could always duct tape an old PS2 to the top of your PS3.
