PS3 HDMI video cable with standard audio splitter?

May be...
  • I'm thinking about getting a PS3 and an HDTV, but I have a concern about my surround sound. My current surround sound uses standard red and white audio cables. Is there a cable that will split the PS3's AV, having video go through hdmi so i can play in glorious 1080p while using my current surround sound? They make one for the xbox 360...

  • You do not need some special adapter like the 360. The PS3 is not as complicated as that worthless system.

The PS3 does not force you to use the HDMI cable for sound if you are using it for picture. The PS3 has dedicated setup menus for both picture and sound. You can choose a different sound output if you don't wanna use HDMI. In your situation, simply use the standard A/V cables that came with the PS3 for sound and just leave the Yellow RCA composite cable alone unhooked. Or if your receiver has an optical input then you can use an optical cable. Again, you don't need some silly adapter cable or peripheral.
  • no need for the splitter because you can set video and audio output separately. Set the video out on HDMI (under Display Settings) and set your audio out to SCART/Multi AV (under Sound Settings). This means you will have to use 2 different cables for Video (HDMI cable) and audio (SCART cable).
  • if you plug your Hdmi cable directly into the TV and then plug your RED/WHITE audio cable into the TV as well ( or if your have one use a scart cable) set your surround sound system to either line out or a output devices via the remote in the system menu and there you have it a 1080 tv with SS while playing the PS3...goodluck...
