Any problems I should be aware of about PS3?

May be...
  • My wife just bought me a PS3 for our anniversary. I've already learned I cannot play any of my PS2 games on it which sucks. But I'm curious what other issues I should be aware of about the system. BTW, I'm running it offline (no internet connection).
  • If you purchased an 80 GB PS3, there are some things you need to aware of:

    1. It will play the original PS1 games,

    2. PS2 games backward compatibility goes out the window.

    3. It comes with a Wi-Fi connection so you can surf the Net on the TV, as long as there is a wireless router nearby.

    4. If you own a PSP(1000,2000,3000), you can remote play the PS1 games, watch videos and listen to music through the PS3.

    5. You can also back up videos and music on the PS3's hard drive. That way, if you want to free up some space on your portable flash drive, you can do so.
  • PS3 is a dust magnet. Its recommened to clean the vents with a low-powered vacuum from time to time, but any vacuum with a hose attatchemnt or dust buster will do. If its a powerful vacuum, keep the nozzle an inch or two away from the vent when cleaning.

Its best to give the PS3 vents as much open space as possible since it heavily relies on surrounding air and space to stay cool. 10 cm is the absolute minimum. Avoid confined space if possible.

An online connection is almost essential. Sure, system updates can be saved to portable storage, but GAME UPDATES cannot. Game updates can only be downloaded through the PS3 via online connection. Some games might not run right without updates and can prevent you from fully enjoying the game. Its not like you necessarily need your own internet connection. Since the PS3 has built-in WiFi, you could use a surrounding wireless network that doesn't have any security.
  • You dont have to worry about alot.

The failure rate of the PS3 is about 0.2%

You dont have to have your PS3 online to play offline games - but from time to time, the PS3 will need updating. You can do this offline too.

Also, the charger cable you get with the PS3 is quite short - You should think about getting a Mini-B USB Cable.

    good luck!
  • Well, the recharging cable for the controller is pretty short. It's best just to go to radio shack or something and buy a cheap extension or longer cable. That way if the battery dies in the middle of a game, you don't have to sit 4' from the TV.

A blueray remote is optional but worth the price. You can get them cheap online.
  • You need internet connection bro..
  • just make sure there are no obstructions in front of any of its vents. And keep it in a place where it gets lots of air.
  • Nope, PS3 seems pretty clean of problems unlike the Xbox 360 :P
  • ps3 sucks get a ps1
