Both have large online communitiesit mostly depends on what games your kids like to play. Although most games are available for ps3 and 360, some are exclusive to the system. The old 360s had many problems with overheating and the "ring-of-death", but the newer, more expensive, ones are better, though they still glitch a lot. Ps3s barely malfunction, but are more expensive. Also, if you use xbox live or it's playstation equivalent, you may go with one system over another because of whether their friends have one.the xbox 360. i have played them both many many times and i like the xbox better. to me, it has better controls, and better games. it has most games the ps3 has plus gears of war(awesome game), halo 1-3, and soon gears 2. on top of that, the xbox is cheaper and has xbox LIVE, where you can play online, chat with friends, and download maps and other content from LIVE marketplace, some for free. plus, i think it looks cooler.
and to anyone who uses the " red ring of death" against the 360, the newer consoles have been completly redesined to drastically reduce the number of red ring incidents.PS3 kicks Xbox 360's ***.
It has so much more features, and is better than Xbox 360 in every way. It has better graphics, now better games. The Playstation Network is free, wireless, and has HOME coming out which is free as well.
PS3 also has a trophy system in it's next update.
And TruthBt, whatever, Sony lost 6 billion dollars, and
Microsoft lost 20 billion.
Oh and by the way, I have had 5 Xbox 360's in the last 2 years. They break a lot. Their hardware is cheap, and the graphics are outdated.xbox 360 = cheaper and crappier
PS3 = expensive yet has Bluray and better hardware made for evolution. Also has motion sensing controllers for Wii like games.

Sony took a loss on the system so they could sell more of them, more hardware sold = way more software sold, this is not uncommon with consoles, MS has lost close to 18 billion in repairs for the Xbox 360.
Online play on Ps3 is fine, and free. Home will make it better.PS3 is going to have a longer life span meaning you cna keep it for longer without it becoming out of date.
Xbox will break down numerous times and you ahve to but lots of extra accesories which makes it cost more than the PS3.

the 80 gb ps3 now? ive waited up until now but now its finally starting to come out with alot of good games so its getting harder to keep waiting. i know the 40 doesnt play ps2 games at all and the 80 plays like 85% of ps2 games and i guess thats good enough considering they are my only two options. ive been wanting to wait for when the price dropped more but i dont know when that could happen. i know theres oe out now its $499 for an 80 gb ps3, the game mgs4, and a dualshock 3 controller. so that seems like a great deal considering your getting a game and second controller basically for free. how is the mgs4 game? all i hear is good things, ive never played any of the mgs games before.I just bought an 80GB MGS4 bundle two weeks ago and was in the same dillema you are in now. It is a far better deal to get the MGS4 80GB bundle instead of the 40GB. For a hundred dollars more you get 2 extra USB ports PS2 compatibility that will keep getting better with updates and the new dual shock 3 instead of the regular sixaxis and also 40 more gigs of space. The price for the PS3s will not drop until Christmas time. Go for the 80 GB they are still shipping the bundles out. You can find one but you are going to have to look around a lot.
Also I have Metal Gear Solid 4 and GTAIV and I can not stop putting the MGS4 Down. Its graphics are unmatched by any game ever made for a console. Grand theft auto is really fun too but the Metal Gear Solid is just amazing it is like a movie and a great video game at the same time.yeah, get the MGS4 80gb bundle. It only comes with one controller though. But MGS4 is only good things. It's the best game ever made, it will blow you away. You would have to have serious mental problems to not like itits a great deal and you should get it cause the prices for ps3s arent goin down for a while.....idk how that game is but its free so just get it....!The MGS4 bundle only comes with one remote.

I want a PS3(a 80GB) but it would take me 6 months to save up $500. I don't have a credit card or job. I'm looking for one but it is hard b/c I live in a small town in SC and we don't have a lot of places to work. I like to be a stocker in a Food Lion or a Wal- Mart. But in Wal Mart you have to take a test and I haven't pass it yet. I get 20 a week for things I do around the house that why it well take 6 months.

ok so my other one broke so i sent it back and paid them money and they gave me a refurbished one...well wen i play it u can hear the game spinning and it clicks...pretty loud...also it freezes prolly 2 times an hr. idk if this is the game or the system but i think its the system becuz my old one didnt do tht be4 it broke...so should i send it back or is the noise normal? and is the game the reason for freezing?send that **** backwell if you obviously dont think it sounds right send it back. i would cus you paid full price plus an extra 80 buck for the refurb i bet. so you deserve whats best.

You can´t just compare both, they´re different. Battlefield bad Company is more Fun and interactive with the enviroments, while COD4 is more like a serious game. I like battlefield bad company most because you can destroy houses and trees and all that stuff, but cod4 is really good to, they both have great stories, so you should try both.Without question, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

i have never played games online before. i currently have a ps2. ive heard that the ps3 has online play for free. can you tell me how you would play online? do you need to buy anything extra? how do you connect online?
also ive heard that you have to install games into the ps3. can you tell me what you know about that?If you have internet there is nothing else need for the ps3 to go online. You simply hook the ps3 up to the router with an ethernet cable or if you have a wifi router you can use the built in wifi in the ps3 . Each game that is playable online has within the actual game menu, an option for online play. You select it and you are online playing.
Game installs are when games like Racteht and Calnk ftod are pt in the ps3 there are a few a very few files that are installed to your ps3. For ratchet and clank ftod there are 445mg, the actual game plays from the 50 gig blueray game disc. There are 1000 mgs per every 1 gig so if you have the 40 gig you can see that the game installs for load time sake are very minimal.
Games like Metal gear solid 4 , because of the online play and elaborate menu system and the fact that the game itself is over 50 gigs, that game installs about 4gig onto the ps3 harddrive and the rest of the 50 gig game plays from the 50 gig blueray disc.
Game installs can be removed without affecting game save files. So if you haven't played a game in a while you can delete the game install and still have your game save file for future use if you go back to playing that game.

There are large numbers of rumors going around saying that xbox,wii, and playstation are all coming out with new systems in 2010. First of all, is this true? Secondly, if it is true do you think I should wait?While I must admit PS3 has amazing graphics and some excellent games, it is far too expensive for my liking and at times gets a little repetitive. The games are not that fun, it is just graphics. The Xbox 360 is basically like the PS3 except for the fact that the PS3 is better. Again, too repetitive, just graphics. However, the Nintendo Wii is a new way to play. It is excellent in my view. The games are fun, it has strong online multi player and you will never get bored because there are lots of fun games. Also, it is cheaper than the other 2. Hope this helps...It depends on how much money you have. I would probably buy the cheapest system so that I would be able to put money in the bank and earn interest on the money so you could get a game with the interest. Logically Xbox would be the best candidate for making a new system because their newest system is still old. Nintendo would be next, and then Sony. Sony would probably be the last because they just came out with the PS3 and it would be hard to turn around and improve on it when they aren't even using all of its graphics.No Sony will not be releasing a new system until at least 2013 Wii maybe 2011 . The 360 well microsoft is working with Toshiba on a new computer entertainment system , much like the ps3 so maybe 2010 for that.

The bad points are that it's a bit heavy if you need to move it frequently, games are a bit expensive at the moment but they are falling in price and some people find the console expensive compared to the wii.
Xbox 360: has nice set of exclusive games (HALO and PGR), can play your own music during games and thats about it. The bad points are you have to pay for online play (£40 per year!!!), has not got the best reliability, not as good graphics as the PS3 and doesn't look all that good. Also, doesn't have built in wifi!

I have an orriginal PS2 which has two USB ports and a fire wire port. I would like to connect my PS2 to the net so i can play online but every instructional site ive been to, tells me to connect the modem to the ethernet port?!? ive looked continuously but i cannot find one... does this mean i cant use netplay or is there a connection or hidden door or other way of getting the net on my ps2?You need a PS2 network adaptor, I think it fits into the expansion bay at the back. For the past 3 years I have been using a Playstion 2. I like it however I strongly believe in a year or two, games will no longer be compatible with it. X-BOX360= Good Console but many beleve its closing to its expiration dates. With big brands such as Konami making Metal Gear Solid 4 and ditching X-BOX 360 ssays alot. I think that X-BOX 360 is for gamers you prefer to play unique games such as Gears of War and Ninga Gaiden. If you have realized most games that are on PS3 are on XBOX 360 but it is overall better on Playstation 3.
Wii=Wii is fun, but i reccomend it for people who only play once every week and maybe dont play games like Call of Duty 4 and Gears of War. They prefer to play Cooking games, Sports games, and Classic Mario games.
Overall me personally say with the power and future. Playstation 3 is a league above the rest. You can play 80 percent of all Playstation 2 games on Playstation 3 80 gig.PS2 games can be played on all ps3 models except the 40 GB version.
~The Wii is for "casual gamers" as in the graphics are basically the same as ps2 and most games are childish. It features free online though it isn't that great. It's the cheapest but you get what you pay for.
~The 360 has the most games since it came out first but has some issues. For $350 you get a 20 GB hard drive and a wireless controller. Online play costs $60 per year and a wifi adapter costs $100. The external HD DVD player has been discontinued and battery packs are about $19.99. The Red ring of death and overheating is a serious problem.
~The PS3 is $399.99 for the 40 GB model. You get a built in blu-ray player (which won the movie console war). Online playis free and there is a wifi adapter built in. There are no overheating problems and the wireless controller has motion features like the wii but in more directions and can be charged via usb cord that is provided as you play. The PS3 has had tons of block buster games this year including MGS4 and GTA IV and SOCOM: Confrontation is coming out this fall. Bioshock (a 360 exclusive) is even coming to the ps3 now.I would either choose a Wii or a PS3

AS OF NOW the 360 and PS3 graphics are exactly the same. But ge tthis. With gears of war 2, the 360 tops out all its graphical potential.
Metal Gear Solid 4 looks the same in terms of graphics, but has only used about 40% of the potential. So yes, in time (say, a year) the PS3's graphics will be years ahead.Its sweet. Its the only machine next to my cable box that i have/need in my livingroom/bedroom. I recommend it. Especially with whats coming this year/beginning of next year.

i want to go online with my ps3 which is on the main floor. i have a desktop computer with a wired connection on the 2nd floor. what do i need to get a wireless connectionThe PlayStation 3 has a WiFi adapter built in. To take advantage of this feature you need a wireless router that can handle heavy gaming and internet usage such as N-models or Rangemax or Rangeplus. Once you have this you need to hook it up to your modem and then go to network settings and set up a wireless connection. It will scan for networks and yours will appear and you are done.if your PS3 has Wi-Fi then all u need is a wireless router which will transmit the internet signal u have ( it has to be high speed or going online with the PS3 won't work) to your PS3, installation is easy I suggest a D-Link Dir-655 routerYour going to need a wireless router connected to your modem and then set up your connection setting on your ps3 to wireless. How can I get my stuff back ?Instead of starting a new game you select load and load the completed game file then pick what level of didfficulty.

PS3 will win the console war, no doubt. Xbox 360 and Wii are so weak from technological point of view, that in couple of years they won't be capable of dealing with serious graphics. GTA IV, for instance, Was not even announced for Wii - this toy won't be able to cope with the game's requirements.
Let's compare PS3 and XBOX 360:
1). A third of XBOX 360 (33%) are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 0.2%. Despite some people say, that new 360 has no breakdown issues - just visit Xbox section of Yahoo answers and see for yourself an amount of complaints.
2). PS3 has 7 kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3.
3). PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 25 (single layer) and dual layer 54 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular dual layer DVD-9 (8.5GB). It's possible to get HD-DVD (max. - 30GB) for 360, but it'll cost you around 50$. Besides, HD-DVD had lost the format war with Blu-ray. Toshiba had stopped to manufacture them, Microsoft too.

8). From the first technical sight - graphics are stronger in 360 (it has a stronger graphics chip - Xenos), BUT PS3 can use it's Cell CPU for graphics too, which gives you better graphics in total. PS3 uses a weaker RSX chip, that was developed by Nvidia exclusively for PS3. RSX runs on 550 Mhz. It's difficult to compare their graphics, because 360 has a video chip with totally different structure and operating memory is divided differently in both consoles. Xbox isn't that versatile in dividing tasks between CPU and GPU as PS3. That's why PS3 exclusives look better than 360's exclusives.
9). Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of death" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 15 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it. That's why in some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".

11). PS3 online is free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.
12). There were reports, that 360 scratches discs. No reports on that in PS3.
13). The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console. Biggest games weigh only 25 GB (Xbox 360 will need more than 3 discs even for those).
14). On PS3 you can install other OS, such as Linux Yellow Dog, Ubuntu and others. Sony officially lets you do it. There is no such thing in 360.
15). PS3 HDD can be replaced easily with any 2.5" SATA 5400 RPM HDD (used in laptops). 250 GB will cost you around 170$. In 360 you have to buy exclusive HDD, where 20GB will cost you 100$.
16).Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years. Also Sony reduces price now. There is a cheaper 40GB version of PS3.
17).Sony constantly upgrades PS3 software (free updates for OS) - you get new functions and improvements.
18). PS3 controller (sixaxis) has a motion control - you move controller - game responds. Wii has it, Xbox 360 - doesn't. PS3 is getting rumble controller (Dualshock 3) on 15.04.2008, Japan already has it. On www.ebay.com I saw those controllers on sale 50$ and up (unofficial import).
19).On PS3 you can help sick people by running Folding Home project. Wii and Xbox 360 didn't even think about it.
20).New 40GB is 399$ or 399 euro (depends on the region) - it has no backwards compatibility with PS2 games, has 2 USBs instead of 4, no built-in card reader, but it's the same PS3, strong, reliable, less noisy, different cooling system. The price is friendly.
21). But, to be just, I'm not a PS3 fanboy, so (despite I own one) hear this - PS3 games (exclusives) are very hard to develop due to complicated Cell's architecture. We have to wait till developers will figure out how to develop games properly. Sometimes multiplatform games run not so good on PS3 due to the same developing issues - it's hard for developers to get a grip on such advanced technologiesChoose by what games you want. Seriously thats what matters. Asking on the PS3 board guarantees the Fanboys will sit there and bash the 360- not offer an unbiased comparison of the two for you to decide which one is better. Here is a more balanced look at some of the arguments:
-PS3 supports HDMI 1.3, which the benefit of is 'true color'(or 180 % of the NTSC color Pallette). The PS3 supporter forgets to mention that A LOT of TV's do not support true color nor will developers likely bother to work in 180 % of the color pallete.
- The PS3's Cell arcitecture and better hardware(an extra year of development) are well and good. But, they aren't so terribly usefull until developers can make good games out of it. Throwing numbers around and figures about how much better the PS3 is doesn't mean squat if no developers can utilize it to make a good game.
-XBOX 360 does not have a 33% failure rate. There is no proof of that. Besides, RRoD has been addressed with multiple new motherboard and chipset iterations on new XBOX 360's
-PS3 simply does not have 'better' backwards compatibility. That's asinine (and no B/C on the 40GB version)
-XBOX 360 has not 'maxed' it's potential. Newer games are still looking continually better.
-Is there a benefit to PS3 supporting 7 controllers? Does dividing your screen into 7 parts sound like fun gameplay?
-Sony upgrades firmware for console. So does Microsoft.
-MGS4 creator Hideo Kojima complained that he had reached PS3's full potential, and could not make MGS4 the game he wanted it to be. This is not a dispariging remark, rather it is to counter the point that 'ps3 has only used 33%" of its true potential. More disk space taken up does not equal a better game. It could simply have more CGI movies and lots of them.
-Sixaxis controller has been called a failure and no game really utilizes in a particularly good way. In fact, games using sixaxis funtion have been disastrous(Lair, for instance)
-There are many more AAA quality exclusives on XBOX 360 than PS3 fanboys mention: Fable II, Gears of War II, Halo Wars, Too Human, Banjo Kazooie, Viva Pinata, Mass Effect, GTA IV with Exclusive Content, Dead Rising, Crackdown, Alan Wake, Halo 3, Halo Chronicles, Lost Oddysee, APB, Age of Conan, Infinite Undiscovery, Ninja Gaiden II as well as others.
-Most multi-platform games still look better on the XBOX 360. PS3's advantage is a 3-5 second shorter load time.
I myself own an XBOX360 and love it. However, I would buy a PS3 with MGS4 in a heartbeat if I had the money. It doesn't mean I'd trade in my XBOX 360 though. MGS4 is really the only game that I really really cant stand not having. Thats why I prefer XBOX 360. The games appeal to me much more.The ps3 is a significantly more powerful machine. Its cpu, the Cell Broadband Engine, is radically different from most computer cpu's including the xbox's Xenon engine. It consists of a normal 3.2 gHz processor and 7 3.2 gHz co-processors all of which can operate independently on a different aspect of an application, like graphics, sound, shading, etc. The "broadband" part means it is geared toward high flops, or overall operations per second, something that is more like a graphics processor than a core processor. While that's not so great for a multi-tasking pc, for a 3d game machine it's perfect. It also has high-speed XDRAM as its system memory, using only 256mb at 3.2 gHz. PC's by comparison tend to use several gigabytes of slow memory, which again is better for running Windows Vista but not for running a 3d game engine. You don't need a lot of memory for that, you need FAST memory.
The ps3's gpu is better than the xbox360's also. The ps3 has an custom made Nvidia chip called the RSX, it performs at about the level of a GeForce 8500. The Xbox's gpu is made by ATI and can't do directX10, a major disadvantage because directX10 is becoming standard for new pc games and this will reduce its benefit from being more pc-like in architecture. RSX doesn't do dx10 either but it is a class of its own in terms of graphics engineering.
The idea that ps3 has few games is a launch-era myth. When launched there were fewer than 20 games total, now there are more than I could count, including more good ones that I want but can't afford to get them all. The exclusives like Metal Gear and Warhawk are better than any other platform's exclusives, and the ps3 versions of multiplatform games are usually better too, especially if they are developed on ps3 first and take advantage of the extra space on blu-ray. Ps3 games are up to 5 times as big as xbox360 and pc games, up to 50gb as opposed to only 9gb.
ps3 has the added bonus of a free online network, blu-ray player, ability to accept a linux install, a motion-sensing controller, and, in the better versions, full or nearly full backward compatibility and memory card readers. Also more usb ports than xbox's have. Less likely to have a hardware malfunction also.
The most important reason though is the power. Ps3 has a better game-running core than gaming pc's do, and its gpu is good enough to keep it competitive for several more years.WRONG!!!!!!!

The only "reasons" that you'll ever hear from 360 fanboys is "The 360 has better games" and "The online is better". They always say Halo 3 and Gears of War, that's about it (What about Bioshock you ask? Oh wait! It's coming to the PS3!). The 360 used to have better games, but now the PS3, despite being released nearly a year later than the 360, has the better games; Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Ratchet and Clank Future, Resistance: Fall of Man, Warhawk, Motorstorm, Gran Turismo 5, Metal Gear Solid 4, I could go on... the 360 fanboys who still use this excuse are either ignorant or just can't accept the truth. Plus, the only major games the 360 has to look foward to is Gears of War 2 and Halo Wars (yup, that's the real name), the PS3 has some of the most highly anticipated games coming up such as Resistance 2, Final Fantasy 13, Tekken 6,God of War 3, LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, the Agency, I could go on...
As for the online, PSN is just as good as Xbox Live; still, fanboys refuse to believe this, the 360 just has better features, the PS3 is getting EVERY feature that the 360 has it firmware 2.40, and it is also getting HOME. Plus, you can play online for FREE on the PS3
The PS3 has the potential to have better graphics than the 360, yes, multi-platform games look better on the 360, but that's cuz they were first developed for the 360. Look at any screenshot of Uncharted Drake's Fortune; beautiful graphics ( better than Gears of War) and it's only using 30% of the PS3's power.
But hey, at least the Red Rings of Death is Original :D
Lastly, another thing people (mainly 360 fanboys) complain about for the PS3, is the price. Sony is being pretty generous for lowering the price to $400/$500 (40 and 80 GB models, respectively) from the original $600, yet 360 fanboys still think it's overpriced. You pay more, because you get more:
-Built in Wi-fi
- Blu Ray Drive that plays Blu Ray movies, CDs, and standard DVDS
- Can play online for free
- Ethernet Port
- HDMI port that supports Full HD (1080p)
- You can upgrade your own hard drive with any 2.5" SATA HDD; you can have up to 250 GB of space! AND, it DOES NOT void your warranty!
- Supports 3rd party Bluetooth headsets and video cameras ( but there is an official "Playstation Eye") unlike Microsoft; you can only use the ones they make.
Total- $400 (40 GB)
Oh, and one more thing: Metal Gear Solid 4! Enough said

pie, I have nothing against the 360, but you can upgrade your hard drive on your PS3 WITHOUT voiding your warranty; you could easily have a 320GB HDD for $120, while a 120 GB HDD for the 360 is $180.
Most of those games you listed (EXCEPT for Halo Wars, Viva Pinata, and Gears of War 2, and some others) are coming to the PS3 also ( Resident Evil 5, Soul calibur 4, Civilization Revolution, etc.)
Contrary to popular belief, BLU-RAY IS NOT SLOW. It requires lower disc rotation speed to achieve the same amount of data transfer

While I agree that some of these look nice, i wouldnt want to spend $59.99+ just to get a game (most 360 games that i have gotten are 20-30% cheaper from Wall-Mart to GameStop).
While the 360 has the red rings of death, they dont overheat to the point where they start to smoke (i used to have a ps3, and in an issue of EGM it happend to someone), also the warranty is better, for the 360 i think its something like 3 years, while for the PS3 (what they sold me) its only 90 days (i still got $380 for my PS3).
Now cost, when it comes to cost the 360 is the apparent winner, but PS3 has had a $200 price cut, which is cool and all, except it was at the cost of backward compadability. The 360 only costs $279-$449. The elite version which is what i have, comes with a 120Gb hard drive, and a bunch of other cool stuff. The PS3 at $400 comes with the controller normal setup crap, and 40Gb which is nice, 20G more then the normal 360.
OH BUT HERES THE KICKER! for $449 you can get a Xbox360 elite with a 120Gb hard drive, all of which is backwards compatable, and then for $500 you get a PS3 (this is the only 80GB PS3 i could find) with Metal Gear solid.
Lets say you got another $50 to spend (so we can make each system tally to $500) you can go to gamestop and get 4 or 5 games for the 360 (say, football, baseball, basketball, and 2 other games).
Also bluray, its nice and all, but whipdey freaking du, its slow as balls and not worth it.
