What is the Smallest Hard Drive you can put in your PS3?

I am asking this because I got a PS3 for free because it don't have a Hard Drive. I have a old IBM think pad 770 E with an old 8.1 STA GB HD and want to see if the PS3 Just needs an HD.



I don't want to have to go out an buy a new Hard Drive if my PS3 is busted beyond my repair and I don't want to brake my PS3 more if the think pad HD is to small and all that the PS3 needs is an HD.

As long as its a 2.5" SATA it'll physically fit in the PS3. so it cant hurt to try, though 8GB may be on the small side, mainly when you satart palying gmaes that need installs, they can take up 6GB in size in some cases, so youll have to install the game, play it, then delete it before palying the next game, which could be a pain in the ***..



hardrives are very chepa nowdays anyway, so i would suggest buying one. And if the PS3 doesnt work, you can put it in a hard drive enclosure and use it as a portable hardrive.

Uncharted Drake's Fortune is a pretty good T-rated game, the story is great, the game is action-packed, the music is awesome, and the graphics are great, what more could you want? The game itself is only about 10 hours long at most, but there's a ton of replay value from collecting trophies ( this game supports trophies)



Warhawk is also a pretty good and cheap ( $29.99) T-rated game, though it's an online only ( no single-player). There's a lot of variety in the game and tons of ways to blow up your enemies, say you don't like flying in planes? No problem, hop in a tank or a jeep for a while, or go on foot if you like.

Any sports game. Grand Trismo 5: Prologue. The Tony Hawk games. My little brother is 13 and he loves Metal Gear Solid 4. It has alot of shooting and killing....so I don't know if you approve of this for him but I would recommend that for you or your little bro!

it's called a slim line, not slime line. and everyone who says that the slim overheats faster than the original fat PS2 had theirs overheat due to suffocation. ANY console will overheat if you don't allow air to circulate around it. I own a slim and it's just fine. I have plenty of space around it and it does not overheat. that's how you can avoid overheating your slim PS2.

Why should I get a PS3?

So I'm having a tough time deciding between a PS3 and Xbox 360. I've owned a 360 before, but I sold it off because I rarely touched it (never got the RRoD). But that was before when I didn't really have any good games and admittedly played a lot of crappy games to boost my gamerscore.



Anyway, what are some great exclusives coming out to the PS3 soon? I'm a huge Final Fantasy (which is coming to the 360) and Gears of War fan, so I'm kinda leaning towards the 360 right now. The price is also $200 cheaper for the 360 right now.

The reason why you should get a PS3 is for the exclusives and the additional features that it has over the 360 like Blu-ray, Built in Wifi, and FREE Online.



If you love Final Fantasy, yes you will be able to get FFXIII on the 360, but Final Fantasy Versus XIII is a Playstation 3 exclusive, so you wont be able to get that one if you just go with the 360.



Final Fantasy XIII will be released on the PS3 first in Japan and it's being developed on the PS3 first...and more than likely, the PS3 version will be the superior version because FFXIII is being optimized for the PS3 to take full advantage of the system.

I have the xbox 360 and my best friend has a ps3 and i am wanting to get a ps3. For one reason is the blu ray dvd player, another advantage is having the wifi built into the ps3, which i have to spend an additional 100 bucks on the xbox just to play xbox love at my house. the blu ray dvd players will be at least 100 bucks.. so there's the two hundred bucks ur saving with the xbox. as far as the games go, there's not so many games that are only exclusive to one platform.

one of the main reasons i would get the PS3 over the Xbox if i had the choice is that the PS3 has a blue ray player. a new good blue ray player is around 400-500 dollars. i also really like sony. and i think that the games for the PS3 are better, the only game for the xbox that i would play would be halo

360 has better exclusives, PS3 can play blu rays. That's about what it boils down to.



I gotta tell ya though, I love the 360 just for the gamerscore. I feel now that when I play a game, I have something to show for it, even if it's just a number that doesn't mean anything.

If you are a huge fan of FF then you will defintly want a PS3, it was one of the exclusives on hte Ps3 that drew me ( as well as LBP, and the fact it had a blu-ray player and i didnt have ot pay £50 a year to play online)

360 may get FFXII but dotn forget its a port, so it will be multiple discs, be using compression ,and it would jsut ruin the experience, and you cant get Versus XII either. if Gears is only other game thats drawing you back to 360 then grab it on PC, most 360 games end up on PC anyway.

At its launch PS3 did have a cruddy librabry, but now developerss can use the Cell, and are realising Blu-Ray offers more space for games (Id games had to remove chunks of the game from Rage cos it won't fit on DVD for 360) the library is building, and if you look at the fact Ps1 n Ps2 have about 3000 games each you know over the coming years the library will be huge.

Also Ps3 now has Trophies(similar to achivemnts) and a PS score (Simialr to GamerScore) and Home coming out sometiem this month, so PSN is building up to rival ( and possibly surpass) XBL too.

Sure the Ps3 does cost quite a bit more, but you get your monies worth, as pointed out, by the time youve paid for XBl, or decide you wanto t start watching HD movies, upgrade the HDD, gotten the play n charge kit etc, youll have to shell out the $200(and more) that you saved on the Ps3.

Sony have nearly 20 years(they worked wiht Nintendo before Ps1) in the video gmae industry compared ot Micrsofts 6, so Sony knwo what there doing and cna give a quailty games console and service to their customers. And right now if i was gonna buy a new 360 i'd be worried MS are gonna do the trick they did on the orignal XBox n complelty drop it after 4 year's, at least Sony will still support Ps3 for many years after Ps4 comes out, look at the Ps2 now.

I pre-ordered Dead Space this weekend and I also have Fallout 3 on pre-order, so I would say go with Dead Space and Fallout 3 or Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2.



And yeah, Dead Space looks like a really awesome Survival Horror game and I'm not even a fan of the survival horror genre, but I've been hooked on Dead Space.



Far Cry 2 looks good as well. I read in a magazine article that Far Cry 2 will have around 40-50 hours of gameplay just in the Single Player portion of the game so there will be TONS of stuff to do in the game. Far Cry 2 is an open world FPS game and looks like tons of fun and I'm definantly picking it up too.



I'm getting Far Cry 2 and Bioshock as well on the PS3, but I'm getting them in November or December though because I need to give my wallet a break from buying games in October first.

Well im geting LBP, Far Cry 2, then maybe Fallout 3/Fable 2 if i have spare cash, and depending on certian things, i.e if my mate is lending me his 360 or not. All are out on the smae day (well not Fallout 3) so itll be a very expensive day :P, but its to last me till xmas.

Your best bet for a good quality yet insanely cheap HDMI cable is monoprice.com. They have a number of different lengths. Check my source link for a 6 foot cable for less then $5.00! I use this exact cable for my PS3.



There was a blog post on gizmodo.com a while back where they went to monster and had them test their high quality cable against monoprice cables. Mono preformed very well in the shorter cable lengths, they did have some signal loss at longer lengths.

All you need is two devices w/ HDMI ports. Any cable would work, just make its long enough to reach the TV or receiver. I agree, no need to spend a lot as this is a digital connection. You can find 'em cheap on amazon.com

Adding more RAM to my PS3?

I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to add more RAM to the PS3....

I recently found out the you could install and run Windows on PS3, which got me exited to all the new gaming possibilites that opened up.

Then I realized there was only 256MB of RAM, and most good computer games require at least 512MB. Though a full GB is recommended.



Anyway, like I said, I was wondering if there was any way to solve this problem. I'd really like to use my PS3 to play Windows games.

The PS3 is not designed to be upgraded in this manner.



Nor can you install Windows on it - the processor is not compatible.



There is a version of Linux that will run on the PS3, but that had to be custom compiled by Sony. Since only Microsoft has the source code for Windows, only Microsoft could create a version of Windows for the PS3.



Yes, someone DID manage to install Windows running under an emulator running under Linux on the PS3...but it was so horribly slow, it wasn't usable for anything other than bragging rights.



Seriously, if you want to play Windows games, why do you have a PS3 at all? Just plug your PC into your TV, get a wireless keyboard, mouse, and controller, and there you go.

No you can't install Windows (you can install Linux though) on a PS3, you can't install more RAM either, it's not technically possible.

Ok, so I just bought the PS2 Guitar Hero 3 bundle. I love the game and everything, but there are a couple things I am wondering about. I also purchased a 64 mg memory card for the ps2. Is that too big of a memory card? it works fine, but it is a little slow saving data. Or is GH3 just slow saving data anyway? And also, does GH3 only regonize 8 mb of space even if you have more? It seems like that for me.

If you're asking if a 64mb memory card is alright to use for Ps2, the answer is yes. I used to have 64mb memory card when I have my Ps2 but I had now upgraded to Ps3. :D



And yes, GH3 would recognise 8mb memory card as well.



The 64mb memory cards are third party products therefore its not made by Sony. So there might be some minor issues going on such as saving a little bit too slow.

Question about Folding Home on the Playstation 3.?

What is it? How does it work? I heard that if you sign up for it, then some University uses or PS3's processing power. Or do they use the processing power of computer? If I try it and don't want to use it anymore, do I remove it from the PS3 somehow?

Folding at Home uses the PS3's processing power only when you run the program. It doesn't do anything when you're playing games or anything else. If you don't want to use it anymore just don't turn it on. You can also run the program on a pc or mac.

Folding@Home is now called Life With Playstation. You still donate computing power to Stanford for medical research but it now has a 3-D globe that lets you move around it and see the weather and current news in certain areas. You can play music while it is running as well. Sony is just trying to make it more appealing to people so they will use it more.



If you go into Folding@Home then you can update it and it will be now called Life With Playstation.

As mentioend its now Life With Palystion.



Basically Stanford University useh te power of the PS3, the PS3 is way mroe powerful than a PC for this, to simualte 'folding protiens', basicallyl attmepting ot understand and cure things such as cancer, alzhiemrs and many other illness'. so puttinghte Ps3 ot good use.

The Ps3 version is desinged so it only takes 8 hours ( ie overnight while your sleeping) to compelt one work unit, so it wont interfere with your normal gaming.

If you dont want to use it, then just dont use Life WIth Playstation, pretty simple, it wont run unless you let it.

However its ultimatly asking for abit bit of your electricity nad bandwidth to help cure some major illness in the human race,so its doing your bit, should give you a nice fuzzy feeling inside(and theres leaderboards if you jsut want to go into it for a bit of competion too)

Well rumours(form the horses mouth) suggest October with Firmware 2.50.

Also it is meant to be before LBP is relased (oct 21st) as Sony want LBP and Home to be BFF.

I know how you feel. I've had my PS3 for over a year now and I'm also wondering when it will finally come out. It's a strong possibility that it will be delayed again because of it's history, but don't worry. I'm pretty sure It'll come out before 2009.

Yes Sony had the add on HDD for the PS2, BUT it was only used with one game and never caught on basically. So that is called the Business World. If something is successful then everyone else copies it.

No. I don't think they copied Home entirely, but they definitely copied the XMB. It's their own "interpretation", and the "avatars" are blatant Mii knock-offs.

Oh well. Microsoft knew that they'd need something like a community for their players to get together, even if Sony had the idea first, it was kind of inevitable.

that's what I was thinking when I first saw the videos of it. They look exactly like the Miis and the whole avatars partying was stolen from Home. But Home is still going to be better, because the Xbox avatars look too cartoony and kiddie for me.

No, its strictly an online multiplayer game. No single player campaign, no splitscreen multiplayer.

You can only play Warhawk via LAN or online servers. It is possible to set up a private, local room by going online and setting up a server, locking with a password and make sure the settings allow your guest player to switch sides instead of being stuck on your side. That way, yes, you can play 1v1 Warhawk. Fair warning, it's not much fun. There's no AI. You'll probably spend most of the time dogfighting and then one of you spawn-killing the other until they manage to get into another plane.



And you need an internet connection to do it. It might be possible to do the same thing as a LAN server, but I'm not sure. I will check.



One other thing, Warhawk is one of the games that prompts you to sign in before loading the game. So you must at least be logged in to PSN to play. So you've gotta have an internet connection.

As far as I know, it's online only.

You need to format the hard drive first of all. If it is brand new, you need to hook it up with your computer and make it's format FAT32. If it is not FAT32 then the Ps3 will not recognize it. I would have to say Resistance by a very slim margin. It has great online play plus multiplayer co-op. Call of Duty doesn't have a good single player but online play is fun.

Personally, I like Resistance more. There's nothing wrong with COD4, but I stopped playing it all together as soon as MGS4 came out. I keep coming back to Resistance, even though I've had it since launch. I don't really know why, but it's just kept my attention longer.

For some reason, when I go to system settings > delete predictive text dictionary, and delete it, it actually doesn't delete it. I still have a bunch of useless phrases it's memorized popping up on the left when I go to do an internet search. Help, anyone?

go into the browser, press triangle to call up the menu. Go into tools and then Delete Search History.

It will only remove phrases youve added. it still has its own internal dictioanry, which bieng predictave can be a bit cruddy and random.

If it keeps repeating that same process i suggest turning your modem off then on again or unplugging ethernet cord then replugging itt in. Leave it our or off forat leastt ten seconds then plug it back in. Then click the home button and sign back in then it should load straight away. If not work straight away keep repeating process. Is this a one off situation because it usually happens every couple of weeks due to changing servers.

When you choose a game mode and you're the only person in the lobby, it means you're hosting the match. If you don't want to host, just keep exiting and entering, until you've got it.



NOTE: When you do host a match, you get the fastest and best connection out of everyone.

When I bought a controller at Wal-Mart, it didn't come with a any of that stuff, not even a USB charge cable. You have to use the default cable that comes with your PS3, or buy one(like I did) The instructions should have come with your PS3, anyway, for the controller it comes with it. I don't think controllers come with a warranty.

PS3 controllers come in a package that includes the PS3 controller by its self. theres no instructions but all you have to do is use your USB cord that came with the playstation, charge it and it should work on your PS3. They made the USB cord a seperate assesory and if you want one, you have to get it form a store. They arnt that expensive but dont worry, thats how they have the controllers packaged for PS3s.

If you get a new HDD you have to take the old one out. You don't replace the blank space or add more space. Before you replace the HDD you have to back it all up. That way all of your data can be transferred to the new HDD. What do you mean by the second thing? Like brand or size? A good brand is Western Digital and a good size is, well, whatever you think you'll want. I got a 120GB one. It has to be a 2.5 inch sata drive.

i don't know much about upgrading the hard drive. but as for your data you can buy any type of memory stick or sd card and then transfer it to your new hard drive.

The only difference is that the Sixaxis controller doesn't have rumble while the Dualshock 3 has rumble and Sixaxis.

It doesn't do any damage because the game is secure inside the case. This happened to me a lot and it got really annoying. So I *borrowed* one of those things that holds up books in our school library and it hasn't happened to me since...

The discs are very snug in the cases. Plus the space between the disc and the case is so small it wouldn't have room to do much damage.

When you are in the music section, press triangle on the USB flash drive, when you press triangle, there should be something like " Go to playlist" - and from there you should now be able to play your music.

The new 80gb does not have B/C. They stopped adding it after the MGS4 bundle so no model will have it from here on out. You can still find some MGS4 bundles online. The 60gb and 20gb also have B/C up to 99%. The 80gb actually plays about 80-85% though. You can find out if it plays the games you want by going here,

Dude, if you want to play PS2 games, don't consider a PS3.. get a PS2. You can't do anything if PS3 doesn't play 100% of the PS2 games. It's just a bonus feature. So be happy for what you're gonna get.

The requirements for your new hard drive are gonna be that it HAS to be a 2.5" (laptop size, any one bigger than that won't fit) SATA Hard Drive at 5400rpm or 7200rpm (although 5400rpm is recommended, and is cheaper),



There aren't any specific brands that you have to buy from, but I wouldn't just buy ANY hard drive; Western Digital makes pretty good hard drives, and so does Seagate ( the hard drive that comes with the PS3 is Seagate Brand).

PS3s hard drive is a nonpropriatary laptop hard drive. The only thing that you need to make sure is that it is the standard size for such a device. Some of the larger ones, usually the 500 GB ones now a days, are a few millimeters too thick and won't fit. If all you are looking for is 120 GB, you probably won't need to worry about that though.

what is this obsession about big capacity hard drive? We survived an era of PS2 without any internal memory. Just delete your unnecessary files (a.k.a. PORN). Sooner or later, your PS3 will crash (it happens to everyone randomly) and your HD files will all be deleted. So, you really don't need another hd. Just back them up if you can.

It should be a 2.5in sata harddrive. I don't know if its sata or sata2 but they are compatible. shouldn't cost too much. newegg.com might have some. I don't know. I'm a computer builder but have never really dealt with 2.5 inch drives. Where do you keep your games when you're not playing them? And where do you store your old ones that you don't really use anymore?



Do I have to get a special box or storage place for my game discs or do most people just have them lying around somewhere?

I have a TV cabinet that houses the TV, Wii, Stereo System and Speakers and my PS3. It has two glass paned shelves on either side. I don't want damaged or un-playable games so i store them in there, cause there's no chance of them getting scratched or wet or come in to contact with direct sunlight. The shelves are very deep, so i normally store the old games I don't often touch at the back and then the ones i play more frequently at the front.....

You can pretty much do whatever you want with your games, they are after all your games and your choice. I'd recommend getting a DVD storage unit/stand and putting the games on that, if they are for PC or PS3 or DS or anything that doesn't come in a DVD case, then store them in a spare drawer or even get a cardboard box if you wish, maybe a small bookshelf even.....

It's best to keep them in a place that doesn't get wet, doesn't come in to contact with a lot of heat or direct sunlight and don't leave the games lying around out of their cases....

it pisses me off when people just leave them around and then they wonder why the games dont work..

Liberty Rock Radio was the one i mostly listended too.

As long as he has kept it in good condition I would say buy it. Considering he wants $300 for the only console with 97 to 99% compatibility with PS2 games, it a pretty good deal, especially since 60gb's are no longer made. As someone else mentioned your friend is basically going backwards, he's buying a console with slightly more storage but losing the best PS2 compatibility of any PS3 model, when all he had to do was put in a larger hard drive, which is allowed by Sony and is cheaper than buying a new PlayStation 3. But hey, it's his loss and your gain.

If he is selling it to you, then go for it. Mainly because the 60GB version is better than the 80GB because on the 60GB version, you can play all PS2/PS1 games instead of the 80GB version where you can play most PS2/PS1 games.

It's a bit pricey - I would haggle and get it down to maybe 250. But if not, it's a sweet deal. Your friend's making the wrong decision seeling his 60 to get an 80 gb though, cause all he has to do for more memory is buy a new HDD. He's downgrading, seriously.

You can plug in anything from 1GB to 320GB,or 1TB.

Well, Im going to try to be a playstation top contributor. To any top contributors out there, do you have any advice?

Well, first off let me say I wasn't expecting it at all. I got it 2 weeks ago. I don't really know what I did as yahoo keeps the formula a secret, but I do know this. I got like 20 best answers that week and I have 24% best answer. So that's really all it took for me. Right now I have about 150 best answers and 120 or so in the Playstation catagory.

I'm not a top contributor but I'm trying to be one. all i know is that you have to get most of your best answers in the section you want and you also have to have like 2,500 points to get the top contributor badge

I recently wanted an xbox 360 ( i was a xbox 360 fanboy ) But when heard the bad things about it I thought "forget that!"



Anyway how is psn bad. Some people say it is bad but they never said how. I'm getting a ps3 in about a week so I need some info about it

The main reason people say that the PSN is "bad" is the games servers.



unlike XBL the PSN dosen'e have centerlized games servers, the games you play online, other than Sony games, are played on servers hosted by either the game company or a 3rd party server company. XBL has all centerlized server, this is why it costs to access them.



other features on the psn are catching up to the XBL only reason they have thing we dont is the 16 month advantage they have, meaning they have had longer to devolp the features.



PSN recently got Trophies (achivements), but not all games support them as of yet, same with ingame music, both will be mandatory in the future as they are on XBL

The PSN store dose not have the quanity that XBL marketplace has, SONY belives in quaility over quanity, so unless a game is proven good it wont be on there until it is, alot of XBL games are migraiting over because how well they have done.



but over all; they are the same thing, diff name, and way diff price.



pluse the sony network support is great they will help you with any issues you have.



and to cris t, he didnt as about the console we know what the x-box has, and maybe you need to stop trying to get ppl on the x-box. 95% of what you said is false, mics i have 80 ppl on my friend and all of them have them, only ppl that dont have head sets either dont want one, cant afford one, or are waiting on socom w/headset. and the features either coming out for the ps3 or things we have are either as good as or better than XBL, nice try though.

People who say it's bad are those who are jealous because they pay to play online game while PSN is FREE!!! That's right... FREE. So, you' re question is right, how can you say it's bad when it's free. Alright, some servers act up, but those are temporary. And besides, it's FREE. I don't care if sometimes your connection just suddenly drop. Nothing is perfect in real world. And with the launch of PSN Home, I'm sure it's gonna get better than Xbox network in the next few weeks.

For me, I don't want 160GB, HELL NO! I bought the 40GB, now upgrading it to 500GB >=] Cheaper, and I don't care if it mean I'll lose my game saves etc. I can just get them back.



Oh, and people say that PSN is bad because of lack of downloads. What downloads? There's plenty in there, plus with HOME, and also, don't forget PlayTV

Well i haven't compared to other consoles yet like the 360 and wii.. But PSN is good actually, and no major problems... And it's free... And HOME is coming soon... So, I think you shouldn't think twice buying the PS3...

PSN is not bad at all. It flipping awesome its absolutly FREE! You have any full HTML web brower meaning what you surf on the internet on a pc is the exact same on the ps3 and you can even watch videos from youtube. The only community is great and will be even better with the Home comes out. The Holiday lineup its awesome as well for the PS3. Once you get the PS3 you will have the blueray play unlike the XBOX 360 which has the outdate and obsolete HD player which is not used anymore. PS3 controllers already comes a charger cable and a remote that requires no batteries at all period unlike the 360 where you have to pay out of pocket to get the play and charge kit. and the PS3 is already wireless compatibly meaning you can hookup to any wireless access point with the new of a wireless adapter which the xbox 360 does not have either you would have to buy the wireless adapter for a additional $100. I could go on and on. Take it from me I use to have the Halo 3 Edition Console Xbox 360 and decided to get myself a PS3 and I have never looked back at the 360. PS3 owns.

there is nothing wrong with the 360. the red ring of death only happens to consoles 1 year or older. a year ago microsoft changed the console a little bit so that they would not get the red ring of death. the xbox 360 is also half the price of th ps3 and u can already get a 120gb hard drive for it. Around november there will be a home screen update for the 360 making it even more user friendly and more customizeable. along with that update you will be able to download full 360 titles straight to the xbox 360 hard drive so that you wont ever have to deal with disks again. i have both a 360 and a ps3 and there is a hundred times more things you can get and download on xbox live than psn. and also on psn almost nobody has a microphone. and on xbox live there are achievments and gamerscore!!!! and the xbox has the halo franchise. i dont know if you have already chosen to buy a ps3 but if you haven i would recomend the 360. there are also 556 xbox 360 games out with an average score of an 8.3 and there are 414 ps3 games out with and average of 6.2

Yeah, it's a great deal for all the built in add ons you get in the PS3. I think the Blu-Ray player goes for $300-500 ( correct me if i'm wrong ) The PS3 is $399 ( new )! If I knew the price was going to go down a would of waited. I bought the PS3 for $600 at launch. Oh well, It's a great system and I'm satisfied.

The PS3 is only a good deal if you care about blu-ray.



If you don't, like me, and just want a game machine then it's a lot harder to justify the PS3's higher prices when the 360 plays many of the same games with little or no difference then those on the PS3. The 360 also has the larger library of exclusive titles - including RPGs which used to be a Playstation staple.

Why does my 40gb ps3 say it only has 31gb after formatting it?

After a proper reformatting your 40gb PS3, you should have 37gb of space. However double check your music, video and picture files, save data and installed games to make sure that everything is gone and double check to see you have 37gb as opposed to 31gb.

Now the reason you should have 37gb instead of 40gb is how space is calcuated. With a 40gb hard drive, you should have something above 40,000,000,000 bytes. When it comes to working out how much those 40 billion bytes are in GB, it's wrongly calculated that 1000b make up 1kb, 1000kb make up 1mb, 1000mb make up 1gb and so on.



So 40,000,000,000 bytes divided by 1,000 is:



40,000,000 kb. divided by 1000 that's:



40,000mb and divide that by 1000 and you get



40gb.



So that's how space is basically worked out.



The thing is, it's not 1000 but 1024. so 1024k is really 1kb, 1024kb is really 1mb, 1024mb is really 1gb and 1024mb is really 1gb and all of these little 24s that aren't be calculated right change everything



So 40,000,000,000 bytes divided by 1024 is:



39,062,500 kb. Divide that by 1024 and you get



38,156mb, and divide that by 1024 and you get



37gb.





It's not just with the PS3, but every type of storage device, from memory cards in cellphones or gaming cartridges, to blank discs, to pen drives, to hard drives. Everything is sized as being 1000 but it's not, so you get a difference in everything.

It takes about 5GB for system software space, off the bat. Another thing is hard drives space is more of a about thing. The system has about 40gb, it maybe running as low as 35GB. When I bought a brand new xbox 360 pro it said i had like 51.7 GB of hard drive space left.

Its a cobination of two things. One the OS has to go somewhere. And Two the HD Size actually gets rounded up ( those devious bastards!!) so sorry but that extra space you lost for good. Have fun i know i am.

I believe that the issue is that around 12% of the hard drive is taken for system updates and online play so that when you download system updates you will always have room

everything with memory is never the amount you have. Like my 160G Ipod says only 148G. This is because of already there and necesary programs that makes the system run.

Proff:When my PS2 broke down,I used my DualShock 2 on my PS1 and re-played all those classics I got,none of them had problems.

Actually,it's the PS1 controller that has a few problem with PS2.(Honest,my PS1 ctrls don't work at all in some games).

Well, not the Sony company itself but the retailers may have a discount for a reasonable amount of time.



But I doubt Sony will drop the price, but there's a bit of chance but that's not how Sony strategy works. Sony plans to make Ps3 with bigger harddrives but to stay the price as it is.

The 40gb was replaced with the new 80gb for the same price, $399.



There's gonna be a new Ps3 sometime this year which is the 160gb Ps3.

If you buy a core XBOX 360 thats gonna be 199.99 ok there you go right there. You will have to get XBL if you are buying into the onine gaming thats TP 250 now your gonna have to eventually get a HDD or at least some type of memory unit 512 mb now the total price is 280 have you bought your batteries yet for your controller 10 dollars for good lithium batteries. i didnt even throw in the price of rechargeable battery set or either the charging station for the batteries. Also a longer ethernet coard if your gonna go online which thats what most people are gonna do with their console anyway. The price has gone back up to 300 dollars already and you havent even bought your game.



My point is I try not to expect Sony to get very much cheaper without having to make a complete base PS3 XBOX isnt doing it there letting you buy a cheaper system but they then grab you with all the extra stuff you hvae to get for it. Psn does not use points just cah so if you put $20 or £20 on it will show as $20or £20 but you have to fund in amouts of 5. eg. you can put £5 into your PSN wallet but no £2 or £7

The PS3 does not use points. For example, like Microsoft, they use Microsoft points when you buy something. When you add funds to your wallet on PSN, it shows how much money you have. For example, if you put in $20 on your PSN account, then it will show $20.00 at the top right screen. Then, if you buy something say, $5. It will show $15.00 at the top right.

How do I unlock all of the characters without using cheats? I played arcade and I beat the game like 4 times but after the third time I beat it the forth and I didn't get any one new. Also, How do I get more outfits for the characters and how do I select other clothes when I select each character?

Costume selecting is based on which button you press when you choose the character, each of the four face buttons is a different costume, and some characters have a fifth costume on Start, and Xaioyu even has a sixth set to R1.



You unlock new characters by beating Arcade mode with a different character as the first one you select each time. (basically, each time you see a new ending video, you get a new character)

As the first person mentioned, press triangle instead of x. It should bring up a option for you to decide which outfit you want. As for unlocking new characters, check and see if there are no bonus people to fight to unlock.

It's easy really, all you have to do is pop in the Game Shark disc, then pick a game from the selection the Game Shark has (you can add more manually if you want) Then highlight the cheat codes you want Ex. Infinite health...Etc, then click start then take out the Game Shark and insert your game, there you go your cheats are activated =)

If I were in your shoes, I would choose the 80GB version. But if you are willing to go buy the PS3 online, DEFINITELY get the 60GB version.

it depends really if you want to play PS2 and PS1 games go for the 60gb, it has backward compatability which means you can play PS1 and PS2 games but this means it is more expensive . The 40gb can play PS1 but cant play PS2 games. The 80gb can only play PS3 games but is fairly cheap. If your looking to play PS2 and PS1 games id go with the 60gb for obvious reasons, if not I'd go with the 80gb if your willing to pay a little more, but remember you can always upgrade your hardrive fairly easily no matter which version you get.

It really depends on what you need. If it's BC, then the 60GB or 80 with BC. If you don't care about BC, then go with the 80 without BC for $399.

The 60gb would be the best, or if you can find the old 80gb.

- Great reliability ( 0.2% failure rate)

- Most powerful of all 3 consoles

- Free and good online

- Built in Wi Fi

- You can store your music, videos, and pictures on it

- You can use most Bluetooth Headsets with it

- It plays Blu Ray movies, DVDs, and CDs

- PSN Store where you can download demos, trailers, add-ons for games, full games, and even movies ( costs money of course)



Cons: - The newer, more recent models can't play PS2 games

- You can't play in game music



I highly recommend you buy a PS3, it's a really great console that you shouldn't miss out on



As for games, these are some really great PS3 games:

-Metal Gear Solid 4 ( in my opinion, the best PS3 game so far)

-Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

-Warhawk

There reallyis no cons to the PS3. Complains for most ends are that the PS3 is expensive and they dont have any games. I have had all 3 consoles the Wii had very very few games that I was interested in playing. The 360 I have doesnt even work anymore so thats out of the question.



PS3 is a very strong and durable console with built in WiFi free online gaming DualShock 3 controller that you charge from the PS3 so no need to buy batteries or a charging deck you can play your games and charge your controller at the same time.

And of course the BluRay player.

it also has Blue Tooth capeabilities so if you have a blue tooth headset you can just link it to your PS3 no need to buy anything extra for it. coming soon will be the 160 gig Uncharted bundle pack which will come with everything you need to enjoy your PS3 with nothing else to buy. The only thing is, is that it wont be Backwards Compatible for the PS2 games.

um, there is vibration on the controller now in answering to that other guy.



pro- entertainment system (internet, music, pictures, videos). it can wirelessly hook up with a psp. can play ps1 games. dependable (well built, .2% failure rate). the best video game controller to date (wireless, recharges fast, sixaxis, rumble, great possitioning of buttons). built in WI-FI. there are more i just can't think of everything. oh ya, great psn store and great online, which is free. on the psn store you can download add ons, demos, movies, etc.



cons- newer models can't play ps2 games. sometimes it can't recognize your ipod when you plug it in. lacks in-game music.



you can add this to the pros list. it has fantastic games. and there only getting better with a great line up for the rest of this year and next. good for us, bad for our wallet lol. some must buy games are MGS4 and GTA4. after that you have plenty to choose from. i recommend ratchet and clank, ninja gaiden sigma, resistance, uncharted, heavenly sword, etc. and look towards the end of this year and more options will open up such as LittleBigPlannet, resistance 2, tomb raider underworld, armored core for answer, fall out 3, far cry 2 etc. and in 2009-2010 there is final fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy versus XIII, God of War 3, Kingdom Hearts 3, Killzone 2, etc.





i HIGHLY recommend a ps3. the possibilities are endless

Pros- Blu-ray player, Awesome exclusives!, A very solid and well crafted system(doesn't break down like others I know..lol)..Games are Region free(yay for importing)...Capable of many things greater because of its power..You can cure cancer! (seriously, it has this folding@home feature and you help stanford university in its calculations instead of them buying supercomputers, ps3's connected to a single network=supercomputer)



It also uses standard equipment(example is the HDD, any laptop 2.5" HDD will do)..It comes with every feature which you would normally buy for the 360 examples are the wireless adapter and such..For $499 you get your money worth which would last for 10 years..(because of Blu-ray)



Cheap if I may say so myself..



Best is it's FREE online feature...!!



Cons- It's cons will be erased completely come end of 2008 as its only con is its "CURRENT" library of games...They have already released the Dualschock 3 controller so vibration is out of the question if that piques your poison..Can't think of nymore cons..

I wasn't able to get to the article, but good find.

I had heard somthing similar, as Home and LBP should go hand in hand, and Sony have built LBPs Home are for them.

And recent reports suggest Home 1.00(so full release, woot) and Firmware 2.5 will be out at same time, and 2.5 is meant to be out in October, same month as LBP, so October is slowly looking more definite for a release of Home.

you won't find cheap ones if you do i don't guarantee it its the BEST. your best bet is the playstation hdmi you can get one on bestbuy but they are expensive

Its pretty simple, buy a brand you trust. i use a belkin HDMI. Look for a few features, Gold connectors (this imptoves the clairity, length, no longer than needed (the longer it is the longer it takes to the pic to get to your tv, and if you decide to go cheap, make sure your read the package and make sure its capable of 1080p (some cheap ones can only take 1080i) If your still undecided look at what your new TV recommends.



And yes it dose



all games are not in Full HD, COD4 is 720p for an example, so make sure when you set it up you select all definitions that your tv can handle, if you dont you will get a blank screen when a game is not 1080p

PLEASE HELP ON PLAYSTATION 2!!?

hi guys i plz help me.....i live in pakistan & my ps2 is from dubai and it is not modified so it doesnt run any cds from this place but it runs games from dubai which are expensive,& i have bought a lens from pakistan also,so i was thinking that if the lens of dubai runs cd's from dubai..then pakistan's cds would run on a pakistan's lens. so i wanna know that should change my lens ,will it run cd's from pakistan even if i don't modify it plz help me and remember pakistan's cds are actually made in Malaysia.help! please

Changing the lens is not going to let you play games from other countries. A lens is a lens.



If you want to play games from other countries, you have to alter the hardware, and I don't mean the lens.

you can attach a part that let you runs all sort of game , you can do that in any games shop

Turning PS3 Off At Plug?

May be...

I turn mine off with the controller first but cant reaxh the button at back because of where its positioned and need to turn it fully off.

Is there any risk with just plugging it out while in standby?

Nope the Ps3 had a configurated panel (in english) that means that ps3 have put a small fan in the back which means if you unplug the puss AFTER gameing it will not cause any damage. Unlike xbox.. boo lol

If it's in standby I'm not sure. But, if you plug it out when it's on the yes. If it's in standby then just flick the switch in the back to off then uplug it.

Yeah, it's perfectly fine. On the manual it says it won't corrupt any data or hardware, but so long if you don't turn it off by the wall whilst your PS3 is on (green light).
